Multi Level Building EV Charging

The adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) is rapidly increasing, leading to the need for the development of adequate charging infrastructure to cater for the growing demand.

Many apartment buildings in urban areas have limited or no EV charging facilities, making it difficult for EV owners to charger their vehicles.

Upgrading the existing apartment buildings to support EV charging infrastructure is essential to meet the needs of growing market segment.

Step 1: Project Evaluation

All buildings are unique and will all have their own scope.

The project will involve design, engineering, and the installation of EV charging stations into the car park. The first step in the project planning
phase is to conduct a site survey and evaluate the existing electrical infrastructure to determine the feasibility of the EV charging infrastructure.
This will involve:

  • Assessing the electrical capacity of the building
  • Assessing the car park layout
  • Conducting a detailed electrical load analysis to determine the existing and
future electrical load, taking into consideration the increased demand from the
    EV charging stations.+
  • Designing and basic planning of the installation for initial charging
Infrastructure ensuring capacity for additional chargers at a later date
  • Provide quotation for the project

Charger Stations Australia can conduct this load analysis on the entire buildings supply and the public

Step 2: Selection of Chargers

The second step is to select the appropriate EV Charging stations, the location and number of charging stations to be install ed.

Things to consider are charging speed required, communications required (internet, billing management etc), load modulation, tethered lead or socket outlet and finally the style to suit the surroundings.

During this phase a basic plan will also include the design and installation of the necessary electrical infrastructure, such as transformers, switchboard upgrades, and distribution switchboards.

Infrastructure upgrades may include:

  • Main switchboard upgrade or replacement
  • New mains cabling
  • Installation of a dedicated EV distribution board
  • Installation of new cable pathways to accommodate new cabling required
  • Installation of cabling to new charger locations

Step 3: Installation

  1. The third step is installation, testing and commissioning of the EV chargers. The necessary upgrades will be made to support the increased power requirements of the EV charging stations. This may involve upgrading the electrical services, transformers, switchgear, and the distribution panels.
  2. Charging station installation. Based on the site survey and project planning phase, the appropriate EV charging stations will be selected, and the number and location of the charging stations will be determined. The charging stations will be installed in the car park, with necessary electrical connections made to support their operation.
  3. Testing and Commissioning: Once the installation of the EV charging infrastructure is complete, a thorough testing and commissioning process will be conducted to ensure that the charging stations are functioning correctly, and the electrical infrastructure is operating within the required
    parameters.
  4. At this point, the chargers will be connected to any third party software required for billing and management of each charger. There is several
companies that we can recommend, please reach out to CSA for more information.

Why Choose Orbis chargers from CSA?

Intelligent Load modulation

Every Viaris charger comes with a CT which will monitor the power consumption of the
installation and maximise charging speed in real time while ensuring the rated supply of the site is not exceeded. Check out
this video on Youtube which shows how it works https://youtu.be/4_5QU_0DpHI

WIFI, Ethernet & 4G connectivity

RFID reader – Add multiple users to start/stop the charger if in public or shared spaces

OCPP compliant – The Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) is the shared language spoken between open EV chargers and charging station management systems (CSMS).

Solar awareness capability

DC Fault current detection built in

Smart Phone App – eViaris App is available both for Android and Apple. This app can be used to not only control the charger but also the power consumption and generation (if solar is present) and includes a full logged history which can be exported
